About Sidekins
Last updated 5 October 2026
Sidekins is a free app for the Mac. It puts a small pixel character, your sidekin, on your desktop. You talk to it or type, and it helps with what is on your screen. It also has a social side: your sidekin can visit your friends’ screens and theirs can visit yours.
What it does
- Helps with your screen. Hold two keys, ask about a button, a chart or a sentence you do not understand, and it explains it or guides you through it step by step. It looks at your screen only while you hold the keys, and screenshots are never saved.
- Does errands. Ask it to look something up or put something together and it goes off and does it while you work, then brings back a report.
- Becomes anyone. Describe a character and your sidekin redraws itself as that character.
- Visits friends. Add a friend and your sidekins can drop in on each other’s desktops, knocking first, and send each other messages.
Who makes it
Sidekins is made by Kushal Jain, a solo developer in India. It is new: the app is at version 0.1 and gets updates every few days, so some things will be rough, and feedback is welcome.
Get it
